The Melanocortin Switchboard: PT-141 and Melanotan 🧠☀️
One receptor family connects pigmentation and sexual function. PT-141, afamelanotide and Melanotan II show why shared biology does not mean interchangeable treatment.

🧩 An unexpected connection
Skin pigmentation and sexual desire seem like unlikely neighbors. Yet melanocortin signaling connects them: related peptides can influence pigment production and aspects of sexual function.[1][4][6] That connection explains why PT-141 and Melanotan appear in the same conversation. It does not make them different names for one multipurpose treatment.
The useful question is not simply whether these peptides do something. Human studies already show biological activity.[2][5][6] The harder question is which effect became a demonstrated clinical benefit, in which people—and what was lost when that evidence became a broader promise.
