🧠 TWO COGNITIVE PEPTIDES, TWO VERY DIFFERENT CLAIMS

Semax and Selank are routinely introduced as if they were a matched set: one peptide for focus, one for calm, both delivered through the nose, both waiting to turn an ordinary nervous system into premium hardware.

Biology is less cooperative.

The compounds have different molecular origins, different research histories, and different evidentiary problems. Semax is a seven-amino-acid analogue built around an adrenocorticotropic hormone fragment. Selank is a seven-amino-acid analogue derived from the immune-associated peptide tuftsin. They share a Pro-Gly-Pro tail, but a shared tail does not create a shared mechanism any more than identical tires create identical vehicles.[1][14]

Semax is primarily discussed through neurotrophic signaling, ischemic injury, and neurological rehabilitation. Selank is primarily discussed through anxiety biology, GABA-related signaling, and enkephalin metabolism. The online shorthand—focus versus calm—is not entirely invented. It is simply much more confident than the human evidence.

That creates the central question for this analysis: what does it mean when a peptide produces measurable biological activity, but the trials needed to define reliable clinical benefit remain small, regional, or incomplete?
